Providing intensive community-based treatment options to reduce number and length of hospital admissions – NTW Eating Disorders Intensive Community Treatment – NCCMH

The Northumberland Tyne and Wear Eating Disorders Intensive Community Treatment service has developed a short term intensive treatment model for patients who have severe anorexia nervosa or who have not responded to family based therapy. The team identified 21 patients who met the criteria for inpatient treatment to trial this model, based on intensive family based treatment. Of these 21, only two subsequently required inpatient treatment, with the remaining 19 making significant progress, allowing continuation of outpatient care.
