North East Lincolnshire’s Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment Service for children and young people was established in 2013, with the aim of supporting young people with their mental health needs in the community and helping them to stay at home.
North East Lincolnshire’s Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment Service for children and young people was established in 2013, with the aim of supporting young people with their mental health needs in the community and helping them to stay at home. During working hours, children and young people are seen in a variety of locations, such as the clinic, at home, at school, at the local hospital or other community venue (for example, café or sports centre). There is also an out-of-hours on-call service through which staff will respond to assessments at the local hospital and provide telephone advice, consultation and support as necessary. The service also liaises closely with the local hospital and police, providing support around section 136 assessments, including care planning and follow-up, such as intensive home treatment.
The service provides a four- to six-week crisis intervention for children and young people, however this is flexible depending on the circumstances, with an average intervention duration of 4-12 weeks. The service also offers evidence-based pathways of care (within the core child and young people’s mental health service for longer-term interventions, including individual and group treatments, and multi-agency working). The Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment Service reports that inpatient mental health admissions have reduced from 18 to two in the last two years. The service operates as part of an integrated model with community child and young people’s mental health teams.
