This service’s primary aim is to build relationships between parents and their children, but their comprehensive model aims to meet the whole spectrum of families’ needs and they also aim to develop improved perinatal care services for the future. They provide support for people with severe mental illness, and they consider safeguarding issues. The model is delivered by the EAS team in integration with other teams, including partnership with maternity and secondary care mental health services, IAPT, health visiting, local authority children’s services and the voluntary sector.
Apart from the direct clinical work, the EAS provides consultation to, and supervision and training of health and partner-agency staff, and develops new interventions that cover universal to high-level needs. Following the EAS’ focus on monitoring the quality and on improvement, their model has been found to be sustainable and cost effective.
